My name is Angelena Zeimantz, but my friends call me Angel. I was born and raised in Northern California where I attended a small two room school. In the third grade my mother had me tested and found out that I couldn’t read or write. Out of desperation she pulled me out of our local school and put me in a private elementary school 60 miles away. Traveling back and forth paid off. I received special instruction and by the time I finished the third grade I could read third grade material. We moved to Dover, Arkansas at the beginning of my ninth grade. I was always just that much behind but graduated. I became the first of my generation to do so.
I joined the military when I was 18 years old and traveled to South Carolina, Kansas and Kentucky serving in the U.S. Army National Guard. I met my husband at Fort Riley, Kansas and we married in June 1986. My husband and I will be married 25 years in June of 2011. We have three wonderful children. Our 21 year old son, Erich, is attending University of Idaho majoring in Psychology. Our 20 year old daughter, Cassy is recovering from a traumatic brain injury from a car accident in 2007 caused by a drunk driver. Our 15 year old daughter, Natasha is attending Vision Charter School and has plans of attending Beauty College then University of Idaho majoring in textiles. We are a very busy family and we enjoy motorcycles and traveling.
I have many hobbies but only one that I am passionate about. I love to write children books. I love creating characters who remind me of children I have known. I find that writing opens a window of insight and understanding that allows the reader to escape for a while into what might be a world they may have not otherwise known. I am intrigued by young people’s imagination when they write. Creating passion in students and watching them develop a love for learning is the greatest gift a teacher can receive. I look forward to being a teacher and creating passion in students who deserve to learn.
